Quick Facts
Size: 147715 acres
Containment: 42%
Start Date: July 26, 2026
Cause: Lightning/Natural

Location: 12 Miles W of Tonasket, WA
Situation: The fire remained active overnight, with interior pockets of unburned fuel continuing to burn well within the established containment lines. Fire behavior is notable for this time of year, as fuels that are typically unreceptive in early August burn with late-season intensity. The fire remains active in several areas of the incident. Crews are engaged using both direct and indirect tactics to construct and strengthen containment lines. These efforts are focused on slowing fire spread and reducing threats to nearby communities and infrastructure. Residents returning to the area should stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Additional evacuation warnings or orders may be issued if fire activity increases. We urge the public to monitor updated evacuation information at: https://perimetermap.com/okanogan-wa
Weather: A few weather disturbances will move across northern Washington from Sunday through Tuesday, bringing slightly cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and occasional breezy conditions. A stronger system midweek will increase clouds and bring gustier winds.
Evacuations: Stay ready to evacuate if conditions change. Have your go-bag, important documents, and a family plan in place. Know your evacuation routes and be prepared to leave immediately if officials issue an order. For the current status of State Routes, visit wsdot.gov. Conditions may change throughout the day. Safety Message: Unsettled weather through midweek will bring cooler temperatures and periods of stronger winds. Please secure outdoor items, use caution when driving, and stay aware of changing conditions. Windy conditions can spread fire quickly, so keep defensible space clear, avoid outdoor burning, and report any smoke or fire right away.
Community Meeting: We will be hosting a virtual community meeting on Facebook Live Tuesday, August 11 at 7:00 P.M. You can watch the meeting and ask questions on the Central Washington Fire Information Facebook page.
